Fortnite: Battle Royale – Every Season In The Game!

Fortnite: Battle Royale, like many other online games, has seasons. These seasons take place over the course of a quarter of a month and bring in new changes to the game, as well as a Battle Pass full of 100 levels worth of cosmetics. Each season is themed, with past seasons being focused on pirates, time travel and secret agencies. In this guide, we go over all 15 seasons in Fortnite: Battle Royale.

Chapter 1

Season 1

Season 1 began on October 26, 2017 during the Fortnitemares 2017 update. While we had no proper map changes, the lobby background was changed to fit the spookiness of Halloween and unlike any of the other seasons, Season 1 boasted a Season Shop instead of a Battle Pass. The Season Shop allowed you to purchase outfits with V-Bucks after leveling up, which was a lot less preferable compared to a $10 seasonal roadmap. Some of the cosmetics included the Season Shop included Renegade Raider, Aerial Assault Trooper and Raider’s Revenge, some of the rarest cosmetics in the entire game.

Season 2

Season 2 began on December 13, 2017 during the Christmas 2017 update. Season 2 was an absolute revamp compared to last season, as we were treated to a festive background and the new addition of the Battle Pass. The Battle Pass was a roadmap that allowed you to level up and earn rewards. Better rewards could be unlocked with the $10 premium version, though. The season was themed all around medieval times, with the Blue Squire, Royal Knight and Black Knight outfits representing knights in shining armor. Halfway through the season, we got a massive update which introduced fan-favorite locations like Tilted Towers and Shifty Shafts, which made up for the lack of map updates and new locations up until then.

Season 3

Season 3 began on February 22, 2018. The season was themed around space exploration, but had weird spy-based characters like Elite Agent and the Reaper, an outfit heavily inspired by the John Wick character from the John Wick movies. We also got a lot of new items and weapons, like the Hand Cannon, Port-A-Fort and even the Vending Machines that gave you free loot! When Lunar New Year 2018 kicked off, we got a new location based off it: Lucky Landing. Towards the end of the season, we saw a strange meteor in the sky, which created a ton of speculation among the community, which also segued into Season 4.

Season 4

Season 4 began on May 1, 2018, themed all around superheroes with characters like Carbide, Omega and Valor. Superheroes were pretty hot at the time thanks to the success of Marvel and DC and the release of Avengers: Infinity War, which led to Epic Games collaborating with Marvel to bring Thanos into the game. Anyway, the season was the first to have a proper narrative to it. The meteor that we saw in the sky hit the warehouse of Dusty Depot, and inside the meteor was an alien named the Visitor. The Visitor was part of an extraterrestrial team known as the Seven, who were dedicating to finding and destroying the Zero Point. To find the Zero Point, the Visitor launched a rocket on June 30, which made it the game’s first live in-game event. It turns out that the Visitor’s plan included spawning rifts in time and space, which brought Season 5 into the picture.

Season 5

Season 5 began on July 12, 2018, themed all around worlds colliding. This theme was very apparent because characters of all different times were brought in, like the Ragnarok and Drift outfits. The season also brought in a desert biome with the city of Paradise Palms, and also allowed rifts and ATK golf carts for free mobility and teleportation. Eventually, the rift the Visitor left behind created a purple dark cube, which made it’s way to Loot Lake, sinking into the water.

Season 6

Season 6 began on September 27, 2018, themed all around Halloween and spooky traditions. After the cube fell into Loot Lake, it was reborn as a massive floating island. It also created areas with Shadow Stones and added a bunch of spooky additions to the Island. When Fortnitemares 2018 began, the cube grew unstable and added zombies to the Island. Fortnitemares 2018 ended with the cube exploding, bringing calm back to Loot Lake, for now.

Season 7

Season 7 began on December 6, 2018, themed all around Christmas and winter. Apparently, an iceberg ended up colliding with the Island, which brought in new POIs like Frosty Flights, Happy Hamlet and Polar Peak. Throughout the season, Polar Peak melted, revealing a frozen castle. This castle was where the Ice King, one of the Battle Pass outfits, was. This season’s live event had him rise to the top of his castle to cast a spell upon the entire Island, which brought in snow and the zombies from last season, except frost-themed. The season also had the Showtime live event, which was a collaboration with music artist Marshmello and Fortnite. A whole concert featuring Marshmello’s music was held, and it paved the way for more music artists to be featured in the game.

Season 8

Season 8 began on February 28, 2019, themed all around pirates, fire and tropical jungles. An entire jungle biome was added to the northeast of the Island, which included POIs like Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps, as well as a massive volcano. We also had the crossover with Marvel for Avengers: Endgame, which brought in Black Widow and Star-Lord as outfits to the game, as well as Avengers-themed weapons. After a bit, we found a metallic bunker under Loot Lake which was apparently a vault, which led to the Unvaulting live event on May 4 where players voted for an old item to unvault. The Drum Gun was chosen, and as soon as we returned, the Tilted Towers and Retail Row POIs were destroyed.

Season 9

Season 9 began on May 9, 2019, themed all around the future and cyberpunk fiction. Tilted Towers and Retail Row were modified to become Neo Tilted and Mega Mall, which are their futuristic counterparts. Later in May, we got a crossover with both John Wick and the Jordan/Nike brand, as well as a Stranger Things one in July. Around that time, a mysterious monster had escaped Polar Peak, which led to the construction of the Mecha Team Leader robot and the Final Showdown event on July 22, which also exposed the Zero Point, an ancient orb which is extremely important to the storyline. A little while after the event, the world’s first ever Fortnite World Cup took place, which Kyle Giersdorf, otherwise known as Bugha, won.

Season X

Season X, otherwise known as Season 10, began on August 1, 2019, themed all around time travel and the past. Not only did Dusty Depot return from Season 3, but the Battle Pass was decked out with older outfits like Black Knight and Drift completely reimagined. Around this time we also got extremely frequent updates, bringing in a new “Rift Zone”. These were POIs that, like the Battle Pass, were reimagined versions of old POIs, like Moisty Mire or Greasy Grove. It was even an excuse to bring in collaborations with stuff like Borderlands and the DC universe. But the problem many people had with it was that it was too gimmicky, as every Rift Zone had a staple gimmick to it. In the western Tilted Town, you couldn’t build and in the taco-themed Greasy Grove, you danced every 45 seconds without control. Another gimmick addition was the B.R.U.T.E, a massive robot mech that had a built-in shotgun, shield and rocket launcher. Eventually, we were introduced to the Seven, a space group the Visitor was a part of, and we got introduced to two other members: The Scientist and the Paradigm. On October 13, the rocket the Scientist was constructing over at the reverted Dusty Depot launched, creating a black hole, destroying the Athena map and ending Chapter 1.

Chapter 2

Season 1

Season 1 began on October 15, 2019, themed all around a new world and a fresh start. The Athena map we were on until Season X was replaced with Apollo, bringing in 13 new locations and over 40 landmarks. We even got Motorboats and actual water to swim in! The storyline focused on a war between A.L.T.E.R and E.G.O factions, in a arc clearly inspired by G.I Joe. The Battle Pass had characters that each had an “alter ego” edit style, one persona for each faction. While the season was originally slated to end on December 12 of that year, it was extended to February 2020, and to satisfy, Epic cooked up holiday events and collaborations like Fortnitemares 2019 where we fought against the Storm King from the Save The World mode, Winterfest, a Christmas event which gave us over 14 free rewards and 2 free outfits, a Valentines event called Love And War and collaborations with Star Wars and the Birds of Prey movie from 2020.

Season 2

Season 2 began on February 20, 2020, themed all around spies and secret agencies. 5 new spy bases were planted all over the map, including a yacht and an oil rig. Most of the Battle Pass outfits posed as bosses stationed in these bases, and each one dropped a Mythic item, like the Brutus and Midas outfits, the latter of which could turn any weapon or item gold while equipped. The Battle Pass also included Deadpool as an outfit, which was the first time a crossover item appeared in a Battle Pass. Another cool feature was the ability to pick a faction for your agents: 5 of them had unique rooms and after completing all of their challenges, you had the ability to choose which faction you want them on, which will reward you with a themed edit style. There was also the Maya outfit, who could be customized to your hearts’ content. In April 2020, Epic not only released a social hub LTM known as Party Royale, but also partnered up with rapper Travis Scott for a concert in-game called Astronomical, which featured a lot of songs from his Astroworld album. Following Season 3’s release being delayed from April to June, the Device event took place on June 15, which replaced the Storm with a wall of water until Season 3 launched.

Season 3

Season 3 began on June 17, 2020, themed all around oceans and water. The Battle Pass included deep sea divers like Ocean and Scuba Jonesy, and even Aquaman to play a similar role to Deadpool in Season 2. The season also kept a lot of what made Season 2 so special, including bases with bosses and Mythic loot. Throughout the summer of 2020, we got new updates like Captain America coming into the game, the Coral Castle POI, the Joyride update that brought in new cars and radio stations and a spaceship crash site based off Siona, one of the Battle Pass outfits. As summer came to a close, we saw mysterious signals like a readable Marvel-themed comic book and Thor’s hammer Mjlnoir on the Island.

Season 4

Season 4 began on August 27, 2020, themed all around Marvel superheroes with characters like Iron Man, Groot, Storm and Wolverine. Thor had brought these heroes from the Marvel universe to fight Galactus, the devourer of worlds. New POIs like Doom’s Domain and Stark Industries were added, as well as landmarks like the Ant Manor, Wakandan Statue, Avengers Park, The Collector and Sentinel Graveyard, all based off of Marvel media. We also got new Marvel-themed outfits in the shop, like Blade, Silver Surfer, Venom and even a remake of Chapter 1, Season 8’s Black Widow! Throughout the season, we got collaborations with Rocket League and Ghostbusters and even an awesome Fortnitemares 2020 event which brought back Midas as a shadowy spirit. When Galactus arrived, he submerged himself into the ocean depths and rose up on December 1, during the Devourer Of Worlds live event. He hungered for the Zero Point, and the live event featured a shooting gallery game where we fought off Galactus’ drones with Iron Man’s modified Battle Bus. The live event ended with all the Marvel stuff being sent back to Universe 616 and a cliffhanger which involved IO agent John Jones, who we saw during the Device live event. A timer began until Season 5 after the cutscene.

Season 5

Season 5 began on December 2, 2020, right after the downtime from the Devourer of Worlds live event. Season 5 was very similar to Chapter 1’s Season 5 and X, which were both themed around time travel and reality-colliding. which was the themed all around worlds colliding. This time, the season was more-so related with hunters, as we got outfits like Mancake, Lexa, Mando from The Mandalorian and the Predator all in the Battle Pass. Character NPCs were new this season, which offered you challenges in reward for bars, the new currency found around the map, or offered you cool weapons and perks for a return in bars. You could also accept bounties to eliminate enemy players. There were 42 of these all over the map. We also got a new biome – a sandy Zero Point wasteland, which also brought back classic areas like Tilted Towers, Dusty Depot, Tomato Town and fragments of Greasy Grove.

Season 6

Season 6 began on March 16, 2021, and was themed around primal hunting and prehistory. The season began with the season’s cinematic, but then led to an interactive event where you, Agent John Jones and the Foundation, a newly-revealed member of The Seven, had to stabilize the Zero Point. The Foundation sacrificed himself and when the actual season began, all the sandy deserts from Season 5 were replaced with autumnal biomes and caveman renditions of POIs like Frenzy Farm and Salty Towers. The Battle Pass finally introduced Jones as an outfit, and also included collaboration characters like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Raven from DC, and the Brazilian football player Neymar. Wild animals were also new this season, which included boars, wolves, frogs and chickens, which you could tame or kill.
