While the fifteenth season of Fortnite: Battle Royale isn’t going to release for another month or two, it’ll be interesting to theorize what exactly will happen and what the theme will be for the next season of Fortnite: Battle Royale. How will the public’s reaction to Season 4 alter the crossover meta in Battle Royale? Will we get snow? Maybe a re-hash of Season 7? All of this and more are answered in this guide.
Season 5 Release
Season 5 is slated for release on December 1, 2020, during the Devourer of Worlds live event but PlayStation claims that the end date is December 3. So there is a possibility that we’ll have another 2-day downtime like with Season X’s The End event.
What’s Most Likely
Given the leaks we have received, it appears that the official theme will be about Star Wars. A couple days ago, Fortnite tweeted out a promotional image based off the upcoming live event which had Lucasfilm copyrighted on the bottom right. Many people considered it a mistake, but a leak showed off some Season 5 outfits, with The Mandalorian and The Child, two characters from the hit Disney+ show The Mandalorian (A Star Wars show) front and center. He will most likely be a secret outfit among the likes of Deadpool, Aquaman and Wolverine.
Star Wars/DC Theme?
There are two theories revolving around Season 5 being based off a crossover. Now that Season 4 is all about Marvel comics, it seems like other companies may want a metaphorical slice of the Fortnite pie, as no other company gets as much love from Epic than Marvel. However, that’s not to say there isn’t a possibility we could see a crossover-themed season again, but it all depends on how players reacted to this season. Most were polarized, as some players, particularly Marvel fans like me, praised the season because, well, it’s Marvel! But other players, particularly Fortnite players who don’t like Marvel, most likely skipped out on this season as a whole, which might make Epic Games question the idea of crossovers in Battle Passes.
But if Epic were to go along with a themed season, the most common theory is that Season 5 would be DC-themed. DC, otherwise known as Detective Comics, is basically Marvel’s competitor, but despite how much Marvel content is in Fortnite, there is still plenty of DC content to go around. In September 2019, during Batman’s 80th anniversary, we got a Gotham City POI, Batman cosmetics, challenges and more. We later got Aquaman, Black Manta and Harley Quinn outfits throughout Chapter 2, but other than those guys, the selection of DC media in Fortnite has been pretty scarce, at least compared to the Marvel line-up. A DC-themed season would be perfect to introduce Superman, Green Lantern, Shazam, Wonder Woman, Deathstroke and maybe the Teen Titans to the game, rivaling Marvel’s line-up of outfits currently in-game.
Another common theory is that Season 5 will be all about Star Wars. Now, Epic Games has partnered with Star Wars before during the release of Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but we mostly got niche Sequel Trilogy characters like Rey Palpatine and Kylo Ren during those events, instead of characters like Boba Fett, Darth Vader or even the Child, all of which would’ve sold quite well. Since Star Wars releases are usually right around the holidays, and with Star Wars Squadrons and the second season of The Mandalorian releasing this October, it would make sense to capitalize on the Star Wars market again right during the Star Wars fever. They already released an X-Wing glider for Squadrons, and many do hope we get a Mandalorian outfit, as well as the infamous Baby Yoda as a pet for the second season of the Disney Plus show.
Another common theory is that Season 5 won’t be collaboration-themed, and will just be a traditional season with original characters. The actual theme of it is unknown, because Epic has pretty much done a season for the most broad themes imaginable. Medieval times, secret agencies, water people, time travel, pirates, almost every theme imaginable has been featured as a season. It’s too early to tell what the theme of the season will be, but around Week 8 is when we start getting teasers around the map. Around this time of year in 2018, a blurry iceberg was found in the distance, hinting Season 7’s winter theme and bringing an ice biome, as well as a frozen castle.
We could also see a collab-based secret outfit, among the likes of Deadpool and Wolverine. If Season 5 is all about the winter, we could be seeing Iceman, continuing the X-Men trend Deadpool and Wolverine started.
But now, it’s too early to tell what will be the theme of Season 5 of Chapter 2 of Fortnite: Battle Royale.
