Game Modes

Story Mode

The story mode is the primary portion of the game, and follows the cowboy outlaw Arthur Morgan in 1899, a member of the Van der Linde gang. Arthur must deal with the end of outlaws and the Wild West, and the conflicts and relationships he creates. The story also follows John Marston from the original Red Dead Redemption, as the game serves as a prequel to the original Red Dead experience.

Online Mode

The online mode is the online portion of Red Dead Redemption, and arguably the most popular. It follows a silent custom character being freed from prison, as he ends up becoming an citizen in the Wild West. There’s a ton of things you can do online, so experiment! Have some fun screwing

Characters

In the main story mode for Red Dead Redemption 2, you’ll take control of 2 characters. Arthur Morgan and John Marston. Arthur Morgan is an outlaw, and a member of the Van der Linde gang. John Marston is also a member of the Van der Linde gang, but later went on to develop his family during the events of Red Dead Redemption.

As for the Online character, that’s all up to you! You can alter the age, name, eyes, mouth, hair, beard and even freckles to truly create a personal western experience.

Crimes

Crimes can be committed a ton, especially in Online. There are a few crimes you can commit that will get police and officials involved, and will severely decrease your honor and make you more and more wanted, so try not to commit them.

Kidnapping | The act of taking someone away without the victim, or family member’s will.

Murder | The act of killing someone.

Robbery | The act of taking something away without the owner’s will.

Rustling | The act of taking livestock away without permission.

If you commit any of these crimes in any civilized region, you can pay your bounties in post offices are such to avoid trouble.

Cores

Cores are the attributes you are experiencing. You have 3 main cores: Deadeye core, health and stamina. Health is effected if you get shot, injured or if you’re hungry. Stamina is basically your energy, and changes with how much

Horses And Animals

Animals mostly serve as NPCs that you can hunt down throughout the world, but some you can tame. For instance, horses can be trained and can be named and serve loyal to you no matter what. Killing your horse will bring in the infamous Scrawny Nag, and you would keep him until he died. Horses can be summoned, can be led, be fed, whatever you wanted to do with them, is possible. You can also fish and hunt for sport, cash or food.

Locations

There are a ton of places to explore in Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s easy to get lost, so try to refer to the map at all times. If you’re confused on where to go during a mission, there will be a gas-like trail on the map to follow. You can also set waypoints which will set up red trails on the compass and map. You can also fast travel, but doing so is rather expensive.

Clothing

Clothing is rather important. Clothing can be purchased at stores in cities and towns and can really make you look much more fashionable. Plus, wearing winter clothes in cold temperatures can help you a little more, and can help you, well, brave the cold. Clothing can be turned into outfits, which you can have on your horse’s satchel.

Weapons And Loot

Weapons and loot can be found all around the world. You can raid houses for loot and you can have all your guns and items with you at all times. You can also have snacks and food at you in case your stamina or health is low, so that’s good.

Roles

Roles are the classes you can play as in Red Dead Online. They basically serve as classes and “paths of progression”, which will allow you to have new pursuits to embark on, rewarding you with progress, skill and sweet, sweet cash. Think of them as basically jobs in this world. There are 5 roles at the moment.

Bounty Hunter | Bounty hunters track down dangerous criminals, dead or alive, for reward.

Collector | Collectors collect and find items for profit.

Moonshiner | Moonshiners sell spirits and run underground businesses.

Naturalist | Naturalists study, hunt and experiment with the natural world.

Trader | Traders sell and supply loot for profit in neighboring areas.

Overall, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a fun game with a surprisingly amount of depth to it, basically making it a good story-focused adventure, as well as a fun cowboy simulator, that feels like a personal western. So try to experiment in it, go ride a horse, play around. The world is waiting.
