Fortnite: Battle Royale – How To Set Up Split Screen

Split Screen was added in 11.30 around December 2019 back in Chapter 2, Season 1. This will make older gamers nostalgic as couch co-op and split screen play was essentially one of the earlier forms of multiplayer gaming. Games like Halo popularized split screen (And inspired Fortnite in many ways), and was one of the most requested features Fortnite was to have. This only works with the Battle Royale and even so is very limited, as you can’t play Team Rumble or other LTMs, so you’re left with Duos, Squads and their Arena versions. I expect Epic to update this feature in the future, so you can play other Battle Royale LTMs and Creative with split screen. Keep in mind split screen only works with the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and it’s highly unlikely we’ll see it for PC, Nintendo Switch, or mobile. In this guide, we go over how to set it up on these two platforms.

Xbox One Steps

1. Open up Fortnite with your primary controller and enter Battle Royale.

2. Turn on the second controller after entering the lobby.

3. Use the second controller’s dashboard (Press the Xbox logo) to go over and switch profile. You cannot use guest accounts.

4. The screen’s focus will switch to the primary player’s lobby. There’s an option below to hold A and log into Fortnite with your secondary account.

5. You will then enter the lobby. The second player can hold A and can take over the screen with his/her menus, as he/she can purchase or view the Battle Pass, view challenges, view tournaments, change outfits, purchase goods and more.

PlayStation 4 Steps

1. Open up Fortnite with your primary controller and enter Battle Royale.

2. Turn on the second controller after entering the lobby.

3. You will then be asked to choose a profile. Choose the one you want.

4. The screen’s focus will switch to the primary player’s lobby. There’s an option below to hold X and log into Fortnite with your secondary account.

5. You will then enter the lobby. The second player can hold X and can take over the screen with his/her menus, as he/she can purchase or view the Battle Pass, view challenges, view tournaments, change outfits, purchase goods and more.
